Vitamins & Heart Health

February is American heart month!

Heart disease is the number one killer in America. Unfortunately, this disease is largely caused by life style choices, such as poor diet, lack of exercise, or smoking.

At this time, there is no cure for heart disease, this is why preventing its development is so important. There is research emerging on some of the best vitamins and nutrients in promoting a healthy heart.

L-Arginine:

We call this nutrient the Hot & Bothered. Arginine is involved in a number of different functions in the body. When introduced into the body, the amino acid arginine changes into nitric oxide (NO). Nitric oxide is a powerful neurotransmitter that helps blood vessels relax and also improves circulation. Therefore this cocktail can help with anything from wound healing to erectile dysfunction to circulation.*

Arginine is found naturally in many foods. Most people are not deficient in arginine. This is why we only recommend receiving the Hot & Bothered cocktail once a month. This will allow for an added boost without putting your body at risk for overdose.

Vitamin D3:

Vitamin D3 is found in our Happiness Cocktail. Vitamin D is naturally produced by the body, but more so when you are exposed to sunlight. This vitamin is important in regulating blood pressure. Vitamin D deficiencies have also been linked to increased depression and anxiety. Feelings of depression and anxiety can induce unnecessary stress on the body which negatively effects heart health.

Vitamin D3 is a fat soluble vitamin. This means that your body uses fat to process the vitamin and therefore the body processes the vitamin more slowly than it does a water soluble vitamin. Therefore, theoretically, it is possible to overdose on vitamin D3.** "A daily intake ranging from 40,000–100,000 IU (1000–2500 micrograms), for one to several months, has been shown to cause toxicity in humans" (healthline). While vitamin D toxicity is a very rare condition, we at The Glow Bar do not recommend patients receive vitamin D injections more than twice a month. We also encourage patients to have blood work done periodically to check vitamin levels.

Magnesium:

Magnesium is found in our Zen Cocktail. This mineral is essential for hundreds of biochemical reactions in your body. Particularly, magnesium helps regulate blood pressure and a steady heart beat.

Magnesium helps with relaxation. For best results, we recommend receiving our Zen Cocktail weekly. However, if you are having a hard day or just feeling a little overwhelmed, the fast acting nature of this cocktail might be exactly what you need to take the edge off.

L-Carnitine:

Found in our Workout Cocktail, L-Carnitine can be added to any of our other cocktails for boosted heart healthy benefits. L-Carnitine is a vital amino acid needed for energy production. Adequate energy production is essential for normal heart function. L-Carnitine is suggested to enhance blood flow and oxygen supply to your muscles. In particular, L-Carnitine has been linked to reducing damage to the heart muscles.
